Association of Sport Cities and Venues

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SPORT CITIES (IASC)
This international, not-for-profit association is endorsed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and The General Assemby of International Sports Federations (GAISF). Based in London, the IASC selected Don Schumacher as one of only four Inaugural Members world-wide.

The initial meeting of the IASC was held on May 19, 2004 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Principal objectives are:
  • To promote the best interests of its Members.
  • To maintain and promote associate membership of The General Assembly of International Sports Federations.
  • To promote its Members to rights owners of major events to attract events to the Members' cities or venues.
  • To work as an industry body with rights owners of major events in developing ethical guidelines, standards and procedures to support a fair and transparent bid process.
  • To promote the best interests of its Members through gathering and disseminating information about best practice in the bid process.
  • To create access to a knowledge bank and library and, in certain circumstances, to commission research which promotes a greater knowledge and understanding of the economic impact of major sports events.
  • To co-operate in the establishment of special events, forums and opportunities in which members may meet rights owners and other parties who are seeking bid cities as hosts for their events.
  • To lobby on behalf of Members in relation to issues or terms sought to be imposed by rights owners or governments which could be regarded as discriminatory or restrictive in relation to the bid process.
  • To establish training and educational events for Members and their staff to encourage best practice amongst Members.
